The exhibition Shared Studios. Three Case Studies presents the work, production, and learning dynamics that arise in shared studio spaces among artists in the local art scene.
The three case studies illustrate the diversity of relationships between artists and the permeability involved in sharing a working environment. In each one of the cases, two artists work in the same space: Enric Farrés Duran and Xavier Ristol in Sala 17 (Eixample, Sabadell), Tirso Orive Liarte and Aldo Urbano in Hangar (Poblenou, Barcelona), and Idoia Montón and Sinéad Spelman in Halfhouse (La Verneda, Barcelona).
Shared Studios. Three Case Studies presents works by each one of the artists and new pieces specifically created for the exhibition which reveal the relationship and its impact on creative processes.
Exactly one hundred years ago, in 1921, Joan Miró moved into Rue Blomet in Paris to share a studio with the sculptor Pau Gargallo. His stay there led Miró to discover the cultural scene and strike up new friendships with a circle of artists and poets. Today, in Barcelona, the high prices for studio spaces has driven many artists to work in art factories or to share studios in industrial venues, often far from the city centre. The exhibition also seeks to provoke thought about the conditions for producing contemporary art in the present context and their impact on its final materialization.

An online conversation between the exhibition’s curator Martina Millà and the artists Enric Farrés Duran and Xavier Ristol. In reading the correspondence between Joan Miró and the architect Josep Lluís Sert, Enric Farrés Duran and Xavier Ristol discovered that Miró "dreamed of a large studio." A sound stimulus accompanies a changing and diverse displacement that draws a route. The itinerary - real or imaginary - traces paths through the physical space of the installation Where Does Drawing End? by Tirso Orive Liarte and leads to the performance Focus II: reenactment of the flight AZ 364/AF 9851 in the Shared Studios.
