The artist Teo Ala-Ruona lives in Helsinki and works in the expanded field of performance. In his work, he experiments with the possibilities of somatic fiction to broaden perceptions of the human body, exploring the interplay between linguistic, semiotic and biological existence, while addressing themes related to techno-trans-masculinity and eco-normative narratives of 'naturalness'.
To close the season We Will Keep Each Other Company When It Grows Dark, Teo Ala-Ruona presented Lacuna, a performance that considers the body and the boundaries between identity, biology and social construct, between the performer and the audience, by means of physical and emotional closeness to the audience, with elements of autofiction and musical cultures such as punk and experimental metal music, hormones, emotional voids and language.
Lacuna makes reference to our depths and darknesses, to memory and the lapses or gaps that fragment it. It speaks to us of the presence of absence, of the ghosts from the past that tear the present, situating the body at the centre of the stage and of the story.
