The best youth. Architecture and post-pandemic city

In the context of Model. Barcelona Architectures Festival, and as a side event of BARQ, International Architecture Film Festival Barcelona, the short films made by students at Elisava and ETSAB during the practical workshop on architecture and film run by Maria Mauti are to be presented.

After the screening of the shorts, a round table will take place featuring, in addition to the film makers themselves, representatives of the institutions supporting the project, personalities from the worlds of academia, film and architecture.

The future designers at Elisava focus their research on the Meridiana dog track and the new redevelopment project, reactivated by the citizen group Decidim, to turn it into a "centre for democratic digital innovation". The result reveals the political involvement that exists in the relation between people and the place they live in, and the time lines of memory, the present and visions of the future.

The ETSAB students set out to commemorate the hundredth birthday of Pier Paolo Pasolini. While in 2021 they researched the Sala Beckett theatre, refurbished by the architects Flores&Prats-the sacred space of the community, the place of the poetic word, which can become a revolutionary setting-in 2022 they focused on the Montbau industrial park, by Giráldez - López Iñigo - Subías Arquitectes, to show the story filled with social contrasts of this neighbourhood, built like a hive for worker bees but with the attractiveness of an urban development and architectural experiment with an eye on the Bauhaus.

Maria Mauti's idea was put into practice thanks to the support of photographer Ciro Frank Schiappa and the collaboration of Antonio Pizza, lecturer in charge of the course in Architecture and Film at ETSAB-UPC, and lecturer Daria de Seta, coordinator of the Area of Space on the bachelor's degree in Design at Elisava.

Event organised by the Fundació Mies van der Rohe, the Fundació Joan Miró, ETSAB-UPC and Elisava, in collaboration with the Istituto Italiano di Cultura de Barcelona, the Institut Français, COAC and the Fundació Arquia. Support: Ajuntament de Barcelona-Canòdrom, ICE-UPC, Más Que Vídeo.
