The Espai 13 cycle has been entrusted to independent curator Carolina Jiménez, stemming from a commission to delve into, through newly produced works by four artists, the connection between their practices and the environment-both the one experienced during different formative stages and the one adopted for political, professional, or personal reasons. In 2025, Espai 13 will present the works of Josu Bilbao (1978), Paula García-Masedo (1984), Ludovica Carbotta (1982), and Marwa Arsanios (1978).

The cycle is conceived as an attempt to approach modes of relating to place. The exhibition proposals will be built around both poetic and political gestures, protocols, methodologies and connections. Far from collapsing in a geopolitical context of brutality and violence, these will seek to weave ways of doing and living together, thereby broadening the possibility of encountering other struggles that are not based on terms of equivalence.

Carolina Jiménez is a curator and researcher. She lives and works in Barcelona, where she combines her work as an independent curator with institutional practice. Since 2019, she has been responsible for research programs at Hangar-Center for Artistic Production and Research. Previously, she was the academic lead of the Independent Study Program (PEI) at MACBA. In various formats, her work has been presented at La Casa Encendida, Fabra i Coats, el Museu de la Música de Barcelona, La Capella, la Filmoteca de Catalunya, Matadero Madrid, Centro Párraga, Vera Cortês, TBA21, among other contexts. Until 2017, she lived in Berlin, where she held curatorial and research roles at SAVVY Contemporary, Transmediale-CTM Vorspiel, Berlin Art Week, Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Grimmuseum, GlogauAir, or Altes Finanzamt. She writes for art publications, as well as exhibition catalogs and artist monographs.
