In Vitro: From Fertility Mythologies to the Limits of Science

KRTU presents the exhibition In Vitro: From Fertility Mythologies to the Limits of Science at the Fundació Joan Miró in Barcelona from 9 April to 7 June 1992.

The exhibition conceptually, visually and objectively covers everything that revolves around fertility and assisted reproduction techniques through different areas dealt with by specialists from humanistic, artistic and scientific disciplines: ‘From origins’, ‘Germination’, ‘From the quest for past limits of biological knowledge’, ‘The virgin’, ‘Ritual and maternity in order and reality’, ‘At the forefront’, ‘Customs and beliefs’, ‘Childbirth, milk and the baby’, ‘Sterility’, ‘The in vitro fertilisation lab’, ‘In the animal and plant world and the frontiers of science’, ‘The female body’ and ‘Objects and analogies in industrial reproduction’.

The symposium ‘In vitro under debate’ will also take place on 9, 10 and 11 April. Various specialists will give talks and take part in roundtables on aspects of science, law, religion, the role of women, ethics, mythology and fertility, and assisted reproduction techniques.

A three-hundred-page catalogue has been published in Catalan and English to accompany the exhibition In Vitro: From Fertility Mythologies to the Limits of Science, encompassing the entire exhibition and including more than 470 colour illustrations.
