This workshop offers an introduction to the backstrap weaving technique, involving one of the earliest prehistoric looms, which continues to be used today in certain areas of Central America and Asia. As participants collaborate to make a giant loom, operated by several people, they learn about the weaving process: the direction of the warp, the way of inserting the weft, the importance of tension. The activity is conducted like a game in which people's entire bodies interact with the threads and with the simple wooden loom.
