This workshop explores the creative possibilities of cement, which is usually associated with construction, as a material for painting and drawing. Inspired by the technical innovations of Joan Miró and Henri Matisse, we will use cement to create unique textures and shapes that challenge the expectations of its conventional use.
Joan Miró incorporated materials such as sand, rope or sandpaper into his works to add depth and relief, while Henri Matisse explored new forms of expression with his iconic paper cut-out shapes. In this workshop, we will combine cement with aggregates and pigments to create organic, experimental surfaces. Using cement as a base, we will explore drawing through a continuous line or a single stroke, which characterises the styles of Joan Miró and Henri Matisse, reducing complex forms to essential symbolic lines.
The activity will be led by Sergi Serra Mir, a multidisciplinary artist who studied graphic design at the Escola Eina. Focusing on the transformation of everyday materials, his work has developed as a mix between installation, sculpture and mail art.
