This workshop involves us combining two different techniques: monotype and collage. One aspect that both techniques have in common is the way in which we look at the field of work: both involve chance, surprise and error.
We will experiment with monotype by using the gestural nature of line to create a unique imprint. Unlike other engraving techniques that have the quality of being able to reproduce the same image over and over again, monotype allows us to create an unrepeatable image in a spontaneously different manner.
In addition, we will also experiment with collage in the same way as Henri Matisse did during the last years of his life. We will make scissors our working tool and look for the shapes with them in different sheets of coloured paper. Once we have created our shapes, we will place them on the paper to create new ones.
The creative part of the workshop will be accompanied by a brief tour of the exhibition MiróMatisse. Beyond Images to help inspire us and see first hand the gestures of the lines and shapes of these two great artists.
