Between 2001 and 2023, the Fundació Joan Miró has held an extraordinary series of works from the Katsuta Collection. It is a long-term loan that included a total of 32 pieces by Joan Miró dating from different periods. The paintings, drawings and sculptures that it comprises have a strong poetic yet also transgressive character, enriching the Fundació’s permanent collection while offering insight into the collector’s sensibility and vision. A large part of these works were originally at the Pierre Matisse Gallery in New York, which for years had represented the artist in the United States. When the gallery closed in 1992, Kazumasa Katsuta acquired a highly relevant group of paintings, creating one of the most salient private collections of Miró’s work in the world.
It is a privilege for the Fundació Joan Miró to hold this major contribution from the art collector Kazumasa Katsuta, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Fundació Joan Miró and Honorary Citizen of Barcelona.
