The germ of the idea for this collection of Joan Miró’s correspondence had been planted in the late 1960s by Joan Ainaud de Lasarte (1919-1995), but it was finally realised by a team of researchers and documentalists led by Joan M. Minguet, Teresa Montaner and Joan Santanach.

In contrast to some of his contemporaries, Joan Miró is an artist who produced very little written material, at least publically. However, this extensive collection of private correspondence offers a window onto Miró’s private, reflective life. It comprises almost a thousand letters and postcards to friends, colleagues and family that reveal an artist dedicated to his work in body and soul, yet very much in touch with the world around him.
